I’m featured in this week’s Stay Brave • The Way Through Winter course • Take out or renew an annual subscription for a chance to win my special Christmas giveaway box (plus there’s a special extra giveaway in this post!)

Hello,

Well, we’ve reached the end of The Children of Green Knowe, but we went out with a bang. In preparation for this week’s recording,

Rebecca Armstrong
and I took a road trip into the Fens to visit the Manor at Hemingford Grey, the house that inpsired Green Knowe. Here we are, looking very pleased with ourselves.

In this week’s recording, we talk about our wonderful tour by Lucy M. Boston’s daughter in law, Diana Boston, plus:

  • Lucy M. Boston’s incredible quilts

  • Alexander’s triumphant stage debut

  • Boggis’s personal domain

  • Green Noah, Demon Tree

  • The representation of good and bad nature in the book

  • The endlessly magical denouement.

As well as the full recording of our chat, I’ve posted a gallery of photos below the line, plus a further gallery of Lucy’s quilts.

If you’d like to visit Green Knowe/The Manor for yourself, you’ll need to book in advance, but it’s absolutely worth it. Details are on their website, and they run the loveliest online shop where you can buy books and other artefacts from the stories. That includes a replica ebony mouse, just like the one Tolly befriends when he first comes to the house. We’re running a special subscriber giveaway to win a mouse and a new edition of the book. To enter just post a comment under this week’s post, and we’ll draw a name at random on Monday 23rd December (it will be posted after Christmas, I’m afraid!).

But most of all: please tell me your thoughts on this final section of this book? Were you scared by Green Noah? Will you be buying anyone a partridge in a pear tree for Christmas? And what will you do now that the book is over?
