Book Club Note: I’m afraid I’ll have to postpone June’s Book Club read - Derek Jarman’s Modern Nature - as I don’t think I’ll be able to keep up. So let’s all take a break for a month, possibly two. I’ll keep you posted. Thanks for understanding.

At the end of last week, we heard that H’s surgery will take place on 4th June. It is much sooner than we expected, and of course this is good, but it also sent us all into a flurry of organisation and general unsettlement. There is much to organise. The whole family will decamp to London so that Bert and I are nearby. Who will look after the dog? The cat? Who will water the garden? What will life be like when we get back?

Despite it all, I’m calmed by the news. We have reached, finally, the eye of the storm. The borderlands were rough, and they will pass back over us again soon enough. But there is a certain sense of arrival now, a sense that we are doing this. Movement in stillness. Perhaps we will find our way to Oz.
