When I started writing my Sunday Journaling Prompts, I didn’t have high hopes. They felt like I was giving myself an easy ride, jotting down the kinds of questions I’d been asking myself that week, rather than publishing the answers. But I think it’s fair to say that they’re the most consistently popular thing I publish on here, and I love reading your responses after you’ve tried them. There’s always a multiplicity of answers, and that’s ideal. I’d much rather create the space in which you can reflect on your life than tell you what to do.
As 2024 draws to a close, I thought I’d compile all the prompts together into one document, so that you can have easy access to all of them. Maybe you skipped some over the course of the year, or maybe you’re a new subscriber and would like to catch up. Maybe you’d just like to print them out and flick back through them. Either way, you can download them all below the paywall.
I’ve also added a final prompt of the year, because this midwinter lull really is the moment that I start to consider how I’d like to tackle the months ahead. I’m not a huge fan of resolutions - they’re usually just a bit unrealistic - but I do like the chance to take a breath and see what needs a reset. And for me, the motto is always the same: You can’t make the world behave, but you can change your boundaries.
My personal boundary is that I take a proper midwinter break, so I’m actually typing this 10 days in advance. As this lands in your inbox, I’ll be in Spain with my extended family, probably complaining that it’s too warm, and trying to sneak off for some quiet time with my notebook. I send you love from past me, and the assurance that I’ll read your comments when I get back to my desk in the New Year.
It’s also worth giving a final mention of the year to my monthly giveaway box, which currently features a bumper crop of books to celebrate the festive season. Anyone who takes out an annual subscription is automatically entered, including gift subscriptions or upgrades to The Retreat. And if you’re considering enrolling on my course, The Way Through Winter, subscribers get a 35% discount. The code is at the bottom of the page.
Right, that’s quite enough admin. Let’s work on our New Year boundaries.
