Also the wonderful BBC Robert Macfarlane adaptation of The Dark is Rising released this time last year, it’s still on BBC Sounds, I’m re-listening to it now.
That’s interesting you say that, I should’ve considered that it might be challenging for some listeners. I need to be in the right headspace and find myself turning the volume down in parts but worth a try!
I LOVE seasonal Christmas reading and Nigel Slater’s A Christmas Chronicles is a favourite. Would just add A Child’s Christmas in Wales, by Dylan Thomas and Truman Capote’s short story A Christmas Memory. Happy Yule Katherine!
For the past decade I've reread Capote's A Christmas Memory each holiday season. It never ceases to make me cry. Nigel Slater's Christmas Chronicles is another favorite that I revisit each holiday season as well.
Oh the Icelandic book flood- such heaven! I so love reading Half Spent was the Night : A Witches‘ Yuletide by Ami McKay. If you haven’t read The Witches of New York, then I highly recommend starting there, but I nearly always add in a reread of the short winter holiday sequel on Christmas. 🎄
The Dark is Rising, by Susan Cooper, is a must read this time of year!
Essential!

I found the soundscape of that really difficult unfortunately - I bet it’s wonderful!

Yep, it was pretty intense!

I’ve read all three of those already this year 😆

I would add The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. Beautiful.
The Nine Tailors, by Dorothy L. Sayers. A perfect read for the week between Christmas and New Years.
