Briefly: | Listen to How We Live Now | UK live events | My interview with Carissa Potter on Bad at Keeping Secrets | Dorthe Nors on my True Stories Book Club this weekend | Please support Enchantment by pre-ordering š¤ UK/US Hello, I remain on a go-slow, which means Iām watching way more films than usual. This week, I really enjoyed/was slightly dismantled by the Swedish original of
I wouldnāt say Tar is fun, itās a wonderful movie but long and very intense. It raises some fascinating issues and everyone will have a different view.
I loved āEverything everywhere all at onceā - one of my favourite movies of last year. If you need more options for future viewing and havenāt yet seen it, āThree thousand years of longingā was gorgeous - like a wonderful dream.
I actually got stuck in a traffic jam while some of it was being filmed! I thought it was an actual racist protest march but everyone in Margate then laughed at me š
I watched Ruben Ostlunds āTriangle of Sadnessā last week which won the Palme dāOr in Cannes last year and I have not been able to stop thinking about it since. Hard recommend.
Everything everywhere... That movie flummoxed me. I had trouble following what was going on, who was who (and why), and what they were saying. I had to take it in 30 minute bites. Will finish is today.
Also, pre-ordered Enchantment. Can't wait to receive it!
I recently stumbled upon a lovely film called Brian and Charles that I canāt help but recommend. Also was surprised to find how much my partner and I enjoyed The Banshees of Inisheren (and how we didnāt much care for Tar or Glass Onion.)
Thanks for making the connection between faceblindness and not enjoying movies. I've never really thought about it but that make so much sense. I tried to watch The Departed while ago and my family still thinks it's so funny that I thought Matt Damon and Leonardo di Caprio were the same character.
I struggle with most podcasts, but I've just gotten into Bring Birds Back myself and have so far really enjoyed it! Quite happy to hear I'm on the right track :)
Bank of Dave - lovely light hearted movie based on a true story about a guy who took on the big wigs in London to set up a community bank.
As for recommendations TƔr, with Cate Blanchett looks really good.
Thatās brand new isnāt it? Sounds fun.

I second this. Loved it.

Oh Iāve not even heard of that! Thanks :)
I think you would enjoy Empire of Light with its melancholy 1980s Margate setting. Some excellent character studies there.

Interesting! I keep seeing it in lists and wondering if itās for me. Sounds like I need to step out of my groove!

I canāt tell them apart!
I've often said I wish characters in films would wear a t-shirt with their name on it!
YES!! And if that could extend to all humans, Iād be delighted :)
