I so enjoyed that book...I think convalescing is a lost art which needs reviving!

I have a relative who has recently fractured their leg...and are 'pushing through the pain to get back to normal quickly' when I can't help but think true rest would be much more restorative....

That piece by Elissa was sooooo good. Just finished Motherland. Packs a delicious wallop, and a very fine ending. (Also, sidebar, re: stories we tell ourselves, I 100% agree. This may be too far apace but I love the playfulness in Mo Willems’s Goldilocks and the Three Bears, which at the end says “If you ever find yourself in the wrong story...leave!” 👏)

Thank you for sharing this quote by Mo Willems! He is a true favorite of mine, and I really needed to hear those playful words today.

You’re so welcome and I highly recommend the whole (leaning into silly) book. I’m glad the words helped! 🧚🏽‍♀️

I loved these pieces of Elissa's, too, and keep revisiting them. Such wonderful writing from you both lately about memoir writing, and thanks for sharing the Terri White piece, too. It's all painful to read and makes me even more grateful for the writers brave enough to do it. I'm glad you reminded us about your conversation with Zeba Talkhani around this, too, well worth a re-listen.

And that trailer! Chills!
