As someone about to embark on weaving complex ideas together in book form, thank you for the reminder that they are all held together by certain touchstones. It’s certainly easy to get lost.

It really helps - I don't think I've been so conscious of it before.

My kids and I just spent a morning looking for crinoids at a science center. Ours are more cheerio shaped!

I am also very much looking forward to reading your new book. Do you have any idea when it will be published in Germany?

I don't know the date I'm afraid but I know it's being translated at the moment!

Fairy coins I’m enchanted by both they look of them and this folk name for them. They are utterly delightful. So looking forward to the book arriving 😍

There’s a beach in Okinawa that has tiny star-shaped grains of sand. I think I have some somewhere...I’m going to need to see if I can find them now.

And can’t wait to read the book!

I received an advanced listening copy of Enchantment and finished it yesterday, sitting in my rickety little pickup beside the Flathead River on the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Reservation in Montana, where the return of bitter cold has iced the river back over again. There were swans and Canada geese hunkered down in an eddy off the main flow, and when I got out to brave the wind the sound of the river ice moving downstream was loud with all manner of scrapings and rubbings and shooshings and slushings. I was moved to tears and not just from the bite of the vicious breeze.

It is a beautiful, beautiful book. I like it better than Wintering, and I love Wintering. What a tremendous gift.

I love this etching! I've copy-and-pasted it so I can refer back to it later. It's filled with inspiration. I've also marked my calendar for your digital US events!

I love your crinoid finds. The one we find in the Appalachian area look more like striated cylinders, but still a wonder!

Such wonderful images, both. That etching! Now I have to know more, too. I'm glad these things don't only exist in your head. x

Thank you for mentioning them! My Dad was a geologist and my childhood was spent hunting fossils but weirdly I’d never heard of these before. They’re pure magic ✨
