Katherine, thank you to you and Remona for sharing your incredible conversation, and especially to you for having it remastered and re-released so it jumped into my consciousness. And I am so glad it did.
As a Brit who grew up in a Christian household and now living in Texas, I was interested in your comment along the lines of Americans cornering the market of spirituality. I think that's just a piece of clever PR on behalf of America! I live among people who assume that prayer and spirituality is only available to Christians. Indeed, that is what I largely assumed until an election and a pandemic came along, as well as the increased volume on stances over race, guns and abortion. Hurt and (perceived?) rejection lead me to leaving a church and eventually listening to the natural world and the wider conversation everyone else is having.
I'm learning to have gratitude for my Christian heritage, but my experience is all the richer for hearing spiritual experiences such as yours and Remona's.
I wish I could slip up to Maine for your workshop, but I will just have returned from dropping my son at his college dorm. Next time!
So interesting! I think over here, Christianity is far more neutral and less keen to declare on political issues. But at the same time, it’s also hard for us to have any kind of a spiritual conversation, because it’s a breach of etiquette in most places. On balance, I’m grateful that we don’t have the big, divisive stuff going on, but it’s so frustrating sometimes not to be able to talk about it without everyone getting embarrassed! Remona and I went to quite a Christian school, but it was still focused on formalities rather than deep feeling.
Such a shame you can’t make it! Can you come over for the reading on the 9th?
Yes, that's true about the nervousness to talk at a spiritual level in the UK. Although here in Texas the conversation is often on the level of whether someone goes to church rather than interest in where they are spiritually. Wish I could come for the 9th, but flight prices have other ideas. Have a wonderful visit to the US of A!
A beautiful conversation --- Thank you as ever.
Thank you! This one had a special place in my cold, dead heart :)
