I read Sand Talk a few months ago. It is still fresh on my mind but I want to read it again. Just like Braiding Sweetgrass which I finished last night.
I ended up reading Sand Talk 3 times. Will definitely dip in again. Braiding Sweetgrass is amazing. Poetic and beautiful. I’d like to read her book on moss. I highly recommend Yunkaporta’s new book Right Story, Wrong Story.
I was surprised to find myself watching "One Day on Netflix and even more surprised to find myself enjoying it.
I've just started reading Hester by Margaret Oliphant and am enjoying it so far. And I've just finished reading a wonderful book called Enchantment, which I loved 😊
Enjoy Japan! the weather here in Tokyo's going to be pretty good for cherry blossom viewing. 🌸
I, too, recently watched One Day... great characters and story and soundtrack! Now the Netflix algorithm is onto me, though, as I also just finished From Scratch, also a tear-jerker... I did not know what I was in for with that one! (I chose it due to being set in part in Italy and the fact it was about an artist and about food. Little did I know...)
Ha, thought you were going to say "One Day at a Time." Which is actually great – the reboot, I mean, along with the OG. But now I want to give One Day a try too!
Reading - Talking to Women by Nell Dunn. She wrote it "because I felt so lost, I wanted to know how other people were doing, and most of them were equally lost, really."
We are savoring the final season of Vera on Britbox. Huge Brenda Blethyn fan and sad that this is the final season. Hoping they’ll do a spinoff with her “partner,” Joe. Just finished Fourth Wing (Rebecca Yarros) as I’m writing epic fantasy with dragons so it’s keeping me in the right mindset. Also must plug the new Broadway show based on Sarah Gruen’s “Water for Elephants.” Saw the first preview because my grad school roommate is having his Broadway debut at age 60, originating the role of Camel. 🤩👏 The show is all kinds of circus-y magical. I plan to see it again this coming weekend!🐘💜
It’s what I read at the end of last season 😭 But I looked it up just now and it says there will be a Season 14 so perhaps they’ve convinced Brenda B to do more. 🤞🫶
Have developed a binge for Whitstable Pearl with Kerry Godliman. Based in your part of the world, Katherine, so you might spot it's inaccuracies, but I love it.
I’m reading and loving The Comfort of Crows, the writing and art are absolutely gorgeous! Dipping in and out of Ross Gay’s Book of Delights as well. And in my volunteer gig in dog rescue I’m supervising foster homes and madly searching for 15 adopters of infant Goldendoodle puppies in mid-April …literally dreaming about puppies. Or having nightmares…
I’m also reading The Comfort of Crows! I am enjoying the art by the author’s brother as well. I love Ross Gay, too — I’ll pay attention to your recommendations from here on out as it sounds like we have similar likes! I’m new here. :)
Enjoy, Rose. The art in Crows is amazing! I love the layers! Katherine recommends so many wonderful authors and books that I may never have found on my own! If I recall, Ross Gay was a podcast guest with Book of Delights a year or two ago.
Winter is my favorite season so I’m trying to seek “Spring Hygge” ahead of the spring equinox when light and energy shifts. Have a journal just for spring season and reading books on nature & resiliency. Raynor Winn’s “The Wild Silence” & “The Salt Path” are incredible. ❤️
I am reading Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano and it is riveting. For TV watching, Endeavor on PBS, is gripping. We have watched and rewatched all the Morse and the Vera mysteries on Britbox. We live in USA but enjoy British shows more than American mysteries. Less blood and gore plus anything filmed at Oxford University (which is another character albeit without speaking part) captivates us. Have a great trip and be enchanted with Japan.
Just began reading You Could Make This Place Beautiful. Also started reading (because why just start one) Trauma Stewardship - a guide for caring for self while caring for others.
My daughter is home from college for a few days and so that has my delightful attention.
Currently about two-thirds of the way through Let Us Descend, by Jesmyn Ward. It’s written in the voice of an enslaved girl in the 19th century. It is searingly, painfully brilliant. I often read things too fast, in a rush to gobble up the pages. This is a book I’ll definitely be reading again. So much horror, so much cruelty, but so much beauty too in the character of Annis/Arese.
Why have I only recently discovered Benjamin Myers wonderful writing?! I recently finished The Perfect Golden Circle, which is about two friends making crop circles in the summer of 1989. It really evoked that period in time and an English summer for me. I’ve also enjoyed A Marvellous Light, the first book in Freya Marske’s The Last Binding fantasy trilogy, and am piling up parts two and three.
I just finished “Go as a River” by Shelley Read. It came out a year ago, so I’m guessing I’m behind on this one, but it was an absolutely beautiful look on loss, grief, and motherhood❤️❤️one of the few books I couldn’t put down but I also didn’t want to finish because the experience of reading was so beautiful ❤️
I have been reading the new book by Michele Norris on her experiences running The Race Cars Project. It is a fascinating look into how Americans feel about race, in their own words. It has some unsettling elements to it, but I think it explains some of the conflict in American society.
I saw Patti Smith the other night performing with Soundwalk Collective and I was blown away. Still am.
I am reading "Braiding Sweetgrass" by Robin Wall Kimmerer and I really don't want it to end.
Enjoy your moveable feast with your boys!
Braiding Sweetgrass ❤️❤️❤️
Oh wow, I bet that was extraordinary!
It was. It is extraordinary to witness the creative power that people carry manifesting through their art.
Braiding Sweetgrass! 💚 Try Sand Talk by Tyson Yunkaporta next 🌿

OK, then, 'Right Story' is next! 💚
Brilliant! Let m know how you go 📖
Thank you for this recommendation! It looks great!
I'm a longtime fan of Patti, so I'm jealous! Such a role model in the 80s for women who love rock n roll and didn't do the spandex.
Love Sweetgrass! ❤️
Patti Smith!!
OMG, wow! Patti S live
I was surprised to find myself watching "One Day on Netflix and even more surprised to find myself enjoying it.

🥰 I keep hearing great things about One Day

I just finished Enchantment too and have read Katherine's other books do I am ready for the next one. No pressure tho!

I haven't seen "One Day at a Time," and thanks for the recommendation. I'll check it out. 🙂
I've just finished reading Between Two Kingdoms: A Life Interrupted by Suleika Jaouad. In awe of her courage, strength, determination, and writing.
I loved it. Check her documentary on Netflix as well, American symphony
Thanks, yes, I will, Rossella
Reading - Talking to Women by Nell Dunn. She wrote it "because I felt so lost, I wanted to know how other people were doing, and most of them were equally lost, really."
Sounds very true!
I love that book 🧡
Savouring every word.

Final season? Say it ain't so!

While they were filming, Fraggle developed this paranoia about the TV crew and would just sit on the beach and growl at them!!
Ha ha! 😄
I love that show!
It's great, right?
Like that show too! Waiting for the next season.

I’m reading both of these, as well! Such good stuff.

Hello Beautiful was one of my favorite books of '23. What else have you've read that's as riveting?
My partner and I are obsessed with The Dog House. This week's episode was especially heart melting - Harriet meeting Lottie and her family 🥰
I don’t know about this show - is it about dog adoption?
Hello Katherine, yes! It's on channel 4.
Ok. Got it. Wait...channel 4 in UK? We bought the European router for US TV but haven't found anyone who knows how to connect it to ITV1
Hi Marylou, it is channel 4 in the UK. It may also be on Apple TV.
On which channel is The Dog House? I need to see this!
Such a heartwarming watch- i’d forgotten about so will definitely enjoy going ‘back in’- I nearly always cry!
Just began reading You Could Make This Place Beautiful. Also started reading (because why just start one) Trauma Stewardship - a guide for caring for self while caring for others.

Maggie Smith’s book is on my re-read stack already!
So good!
Love trauma stewardship, refer lots of people to it when struggling with work or life

Thank you. I'm adding it to my list.
I've gone down the Rabbit Hole into so many beautiful stories on Substack.
